Your Levitating Orb Videos
A few students that have tried the levitating orb, have made videos for YouTube. Here are a few that we have found:
We want to add you to this page! Simply make a video of your levitating orb experiment, post it on YouTube, and send us the link at comment@sciencebob.com, and we’ll post it here.

Hey, Science bob.
We picked this experiment for the science fair.
The problem is that it wont float, it just stands up.
By the way, I used a balloon, not a pipe.
And since i got a 3mm tinsel here in our country, i tried to cut it into three.
But still, it just stands.
We need some help.
This looks cool. Has anyone tried and see how long the static charge will last?
thats looks really cool im doing that 4 my science fair project
that looks really cool and i need somthing really cool cuase im getting judge on my science fair project. wish me luck
this was the best i have seeen i also like the song. ♥
i got 1st place in the since fair thanks bob very much your awsome
that is really cool and weird how it becomes an orb but i am most definitely doing it for my science fair
i think this is the best experiment i have seen before
I’m not in America, but I got tinsel that is about 3mm wide. I cut it into 2, so it will be about 2mm wide.
I rubbed my PVC pipe and dropped the orb on my PVC pipe and it worked,
but it doesn’t make the round shape I was expecting.
But it still works! I am going to do this for my science project – definitely!
It is so cool I’m going 2 do it for my science fair project I did it and it worked SSSSSSWWWWWEEEEEAAAAATTTTTT
that was amazing so im am going to do it for my science fair project…!! <3
Hey ScienceBob. I have tried this experiment over and over and it wont work. My father does it and the strands of tinsel are only attracted to the balloon (PVC pipe had absolutely no effect with either of us). Pleae help meeeee!!!!!!!
I’m glad you’re trying out the orb experiment. Most often when this does not work, it’s the tinsel. Make sure you are using REALLY thin tinsel. Most tinsel that I have found in stores is not thin enough to float. If you still have trouble after these tips, you can get tinsel from my website.
If you have the right tinsel, and the tinsel sticks to the pipe, it usually means there is not enough of a charge. Make sure your hair is clean and dry. You can also try on someone else’s hair or rub the stick with something made of wool, like a sweater. Also be sure to drop the orb from above like you see in the video. Finally, you can try it with a balloon and see if it works better. Let me know how it goes.
